After a little dicussion we decided that a Sunrise would give us the best opportunity for less crowding, but we also decided to not go too far from Canyon Village (which would require an earlier departure). Sunrise is around 5AM after all. And often the best views are actually prior to sunrise with reds and golds reflecting on clouds.
So we drug ourselves out of bed at 3:40AM yesterday, left for Mather Point about 4:20 and found it already a busy place. It continued to get more and more crowded up until sunrise at 5:12AM. IT WAS COLD! There was a stiff breeze at our backs and we later learned the temp was about 40 degrees F. But it was a good sunrise.
With two digital cameras and our flip video we, along with a few hundred others, fully documented the sunrise. The video didn't work out so well, but between the two digital cameras we took over a hundred frames. Of course later we made liberal use of the delete function on both cameras.
Now don't you want to see!

Beautiful! Thanks for getting up so early!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were there a few years back, Marianna and Daniel could not take getting up before 4:00 AM, so Katherine and I saw the sunrise without them. Well worth the early early wake-up.
